Episode 14 - Going To The Mattresses

Posted in Knitting by knitscience on September 2nd, 2007

The discussion focuses on the techniques for building a better seam. We focus on the mattress stitch and selvadge edges. A good tutorial on mattress weaving is one from knitty.com and also a tutorial by Dawn from The Virtual Sanity .

I also review the book by Nancy Bush, Knitting Vintage Socks , and focus on one particular pattern, the Madder Ribbed Sock since I have started a sock fancied around that pattern with Jawoll Aktion 2007 yarn. I mentioned two books for finishing:

1) Finishing Techniques For Hand Knitters by Sharon Brant. 2) The Knitter’s Book of Finishing Techqniques by Nancie Wiseman.

The song in this Episode is entitled “My Planet” by Lark Wiskey , courtesy of the podsafe music network.

Episode 6 - A Stash Is Born

Posted in Knitting by knitscience on April 28th, 2007

In this episode I give thanks to the listeners of Knit Science. Thank you All! I talk about the DFW FiberFest 2007, I was mesmerized by knitting needles carried by Stitch Elegance. I bought a kit from the ladies of Knitting Around, a Noni Bobbles Bobbles Everywhere kit – look at the pattern available at Jimmy Beans Wool and Merino wool sock yarn by Jojoland International. The selection from Jojoland is amazing and the 100% cashmere hand knitting yarn was just astounding. Needless to say, my stash was born that day.
